Resources for becoming a Professional Organizer

Meet Jackie Tiani
A Certified Professional Organizer®, author of Organizing For A Living, and one of the country’s leading authorities on organizing businesses, Jackie Tiani is an efficiency specialist who teaches busy people how to get more focused and organized to increase their productivity. Jackie’s approach to organizing is based on the belief that if you make it easy to do a task, you will be much more likely to do it quickly.
Jackie's childhood desire to find an easier, faster way to complete chores so she could go outside to play became the foundation for her career in organizing. Being the second oldest of six children back in the 60's meant being one of the family dishwashers. She learned that dishes try faster when you rinse them in scalding hot water, and that getting a clean dry towel every few minutes speeds up the process even more. She discovered that you can avoid scrubbing silverware if you soak it in the hot soapy dish water while you are busy washing the other dishes. She developed a system for doing dishes, and followed that system day after day.

“Organization and effective time management are the foundation for a stress-free life” sums up Jackie’s philosophy. She believes “there is no hope for total relaxation in a chaotic environment. A mind filled with uncompleted tasks causes fatigue. Energy comes from order. My goal is to inspire and motivate others to identify, act upon, and resolve the disorganization that deprives them of freedom and pleasure. When clients learn easy, effective ways to manage time, track projects and activities, organize work space, simplify paperwork, and maximize filing and information systems, they find a new sense of order in their daily routines."

Her clients have benefitted from her ability to design and implement functional systems through the integration of technology, effective space planning, organizing techniques and effective workflow management. She has more than 30 years of “in the trenches” business and organizing experience and has held management positions in Fortune 500 companies. On the client side, she has directed organizing efforts for corporations such as American Funds, BP Amoco, Clarke Mosquito Control, Sears, Roebuck & Company, Trammel Crow, Gulf Pacific Energy, Great Lakes Signal Corp., and St. Andrews Country Club.

Founder and President of Organizing Systems, Inc., Jackie has served on industry boards, including the National Association of Professional Organizers. As a respected industry leader, she is frequently a spokesperson for the organizing industry and her advice has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Daily Herald, and Crain's. She was nominated by her peers for the National Association of Professional Organizers Founder's Award. Jackie is Past President of the Glendale Hieghts Chamber of Commerce, who presented her with an award for Outstanding Leadership.

Jackie shared her organizing expertise as the technical editor for Organizing for Dummies®, and was a contributor for Organizing Plain & Simple, 16 Professional Organizers Tell All, and Golden Tips for Getting Organized.

In addition to business consulting, Jackie provides training through mini-seminars and workshops designed to help groups and individuals improve their organizing skills. She shares basic principles of organization along with tips, techniques, and practical advice for bringing a new sense of order into the business routine. In addition to her time and task management seminars, she teaches various information, paper, financial and time management computer applications, including ACT ®, Palm® PDA, Taming the Paper Tiger®, and QuickBooks®.

Jackie also facilitates strategic planning workshops and retreats to help businesses clarify their vision and build a track to run on.

Jackie Tiani is the founder and Chief Organizing Executive of Organizing Systems, Inc. She has been advising and training entrepreneurs and busy professionals in business management and office automation since 1993.

Jackie discovered her passion for organizing professionally when she accepted a bookkeeping position at 21 years of age. Although she was inexperienced in the world of accounting, she soon found her niche in creating new forms, redesigning systems, establishing controls, implementing follow-up plans and documenting procedures. Jackie grew professionally over the next 20 years, attending to the organizing needs of the corporate world. Her career includes accounting, information systems and departmental management for medium to Fortune 500 corporations.

"My corporate job was often a study in crisis management", she says. "To contend with the pressure of meeting the reporting demands of higher executive levels and still keep within my budget, I focused on identifying and addressing productivity issues."

Jackie discovered that the people she managed were working extremely hard but were not very effective in their work. She determined the problems they were having and tested various solutions. She established routines and procedures and coached people how to organize and improve their work processes. She identified bad working habits and procrastination, and procured tools and changed policies to make work easier to accomplish.

Jackie founded Organizing Systems in 1993, with a mission of providing opportunities for business owners and professionals to generate positive results by using their available resources and God-given abilities to the fullest potential.

Jackie is a Certified QuickBooks Proadvisor and a Paper Tiger Authorized Consultant
